Academic Staff

Hira Karagülle received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the Mechanical Engineering Department at Ege University in 1977 and 1978, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1984. He worked in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Dokuz Eylul University between 1984-2021. He worked as a visiting scientist in Darmstadt Technical University with Alexander von Humbold felllowship and in Southampton University with Royal Society fellowship. He served as the founding dean of Engineering Faculty of Kırıkkale Universty between 1993-1998. He is the founding partner of the Technopark-company BLM Mekatronik. He has been working in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at Izmir University of Economics since 2021. His research interests are robotics, mechatronics, computer aided analysis, and mechanical vibrations.

Lütfi Mutlu received his B.Sc. degree from the Mechanical Engineering Department of Ege University in 2009. He gained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Mechatronics Engineering Department of, Dokuz Eylul University in 2011 and 2017. He received his second M.Sc. degree from the Computer Science Department of Dokuz Eylül University in 2021. During his undergraduate studies, he worked at Vestel as a part-time mechanical design engineer and then did a 3-month mechanical engineering internship in Germany. During his postgraduate studies, he worked as a research assistant at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Dokuz Eylül University between 2010-2017. He also runs his own company Innolife since 2013. He has been working at the Mechatronics Engineering Department department of Izmir University of Economics since September 2020.

Dr. Ebru Sayılgan graduated from Karadeniz Technical University, Department of Mechanical Engineering with BSc and MSc degrees, in 2013 and 2016, respectively. She got her PhD degree at the Department of Biomedical Technologies in Izmir Katip Celebi University, in 2020. During her master's thesis, she joined the "The Laboratory of Neuropsychophysiology at the University of Porto (2013-2014)" as a TUBITAK Scholar. The main scope was to receive training on "Cognitive, Affective, and Social Neuroscience with an emphasis on EEG/ERP methods and meta-analytic" topics, which is the main component of the Brain Computer Interface studies. She was a Research Assistant (2014-2016) and Teaching Assistant (2016-2017) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Nisantasi University, Istanbul, Turkey. She worked as a Mechanical Engineer in Safe Glass Research Development Eng. Co. located at the TechnoPark in Yıldız Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey (2015-2016). During her doctorate, she started working as a Research & Development Engineer at Islerya Medical & Information Technologies Co. located at the TechnoPark in Ege University, Izmir, Turkey (2017-2018). Her main research interests are in the field of biomedical signal processing, deep learning, machine learning, biomechatronics, and medical device design.

Gazihan Alankuş received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Engineering from Middle East Technical University in 2002 and 2005, and his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis in 2011. As a part of his doctoral dissertation he developed motion-based computer games for people with stroke, and studied the usability and effectiveness of these games. During his graduate studies he conducted research on Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Graphics, Robotics and Wireless Sensor Networks. Since June 2012, Gazihan Alankuş has been teaching classes about and and conducting research in Computer Games, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Graphics and Mechatronics in Izmir University of Economics.

Rahime Alsanğur received her bachelor's degree from Dokuz Eylül University Mechanical Engineering in 2018. She started her master's degree at Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Mechatronics Engineering, and completed it in 2022 with her thesis on "Design and implementation of a 3D Helmholtz coil system". She started her Ph.D. education in February 2022 at the same department. She has been working as a research assistant at Izmir University of Economics as of March 2023.

Seniz Ertugrul received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the Mechanical Engineering Department, Istanbul Technical University in 1988 and 1992, respectively. She gained her Ph.D. degree from the Wichita State University (WSU), Wichita, KS, USA, in 1996. She worked as graduate teaching assistant and then as lecturer at the WSU between 1993-1997. She was a visiting researcher at the University of Michigan in 2002. She served at the Mechanical Engineering Department of ITU between 1998-2018. She has been with the Mechatronics Engineering at the İzmir University of Economics since October 2018. Her research interests include system dynamics and control, system identification, mechatronics, and intelligent systems.
